Power, Politics and Death by Olusegun Adeniyi

Olusegun Adeniyi has done us a world of service, in many respects far more important than his work as spokesman for President Umaru Yar'Adua. Within these pages, that service fairly screams at you in excrutiatingdetail: our government is so pathetically dysfunctional that, at bottom, institutions of government matter little, only individuals do.

This book does a great job taking us behind the scenes to see, for what they really were, the cast of characters who were put in charge of our affairs. Their petty rivalries, rank cowardice and sheer incompetency are painstakingly revealed.

A journey through this book, which in long stretches reads like a political thriller, delivers the careful reader to a destination where one must confront our true condition with sober senses. It is not a pretty picture. But the message is a necessary one.
