It is played by two opponents on a checkered board with specially designed pieces of contrasting colours, commonly white and black. The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king where by the king is under immediate attack in check and there is no way to remove or defend it from attack. In this game each player begins with 16 pieces: 1 King, 1 Queen, 2 Rooks, 2 Knights, 2 Bishops and 8 Pawns.
